Chelmsley Wood Baptist Church faith//hope//love

  • Autumnal Greetings

With the nights drawing in (people keep telling me), autumn is on its way. It is the autumnal equinox in a week or so, which is fabulous. We’ve been getting ready for the next run of activity in Chelmsley Wood and at the centre and all of us were saying how much we love this season. It’s meant to be the depressing cold season, but we think it’s great. For us this season is about family and warmth, about a fire in the darkness, fun and hot food.

I love the turn of the seasons, how God has given us a creation of wonder, with light and dark, warmth and cold. The turning seasons are a spiritual thing as the physical world around us reflects the rise and fall of our own lives.

For me, this season feels very ‘earthy’, or perhaps muddy is the word. As we feel it getting cold outside, we’ll be reminding ourselves of the warmth of the home, and living that out in the community home of Three Trees. Family nights, harvest supper, games evenings, All Hallows eve, remembering those who have gone before us. Cold dark nights may be coming our way, but we find shelter within the different family circles that God has given us.

Join us, don’t stand outside cursing the cold, come into the heavenly halls! Alright they may not be quite heavenly (still doing some building work!), but we hope the welcome will be. Blessings to you this autumn equinox, as the day and night stand in balance, may you find a heart of warmth.

Welcome to the blog

Neil (the minister) occasionally gets round to blogging so welcome to the trivia and ramblings of an erratic stream of consciousness.

Because we try to be properly Baptist, these views aren't necessarily the views of everyone who is part of the church family here.

We're not even sure they're Neil's.

Either way, we try not to fall out over it.

You can also follow Neil's personal and irrelevant twitter.
